Sarah's Sense of Snow (Baked Alaska)
1 White cake baked in an 8 X 11 inch pan-- or comparable amnt of sponge cake(trimmed to one inch larger than the ice cream,
on all sides)
1/2 of 1/2 gallon block of Moose Ice Cream- or substitute Vanilla, or any fairly conservative flavor , halved lengthwise
5 egg whites
1 tsp of vanilla or almond extract
1/2 tsp Cream of Tartar
2/3 cup of sugar
Place cake ( one inch larger all around than the slab of ice cream) on a plate. Center the halved
slab on the cake. Cover, and freeze firm. When it is time to serve, beat the eggwhites with vanilla, or almond and the
Cream of Tartar until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar beating til stiff peaks form . Transfer the cake , with icing,
to a baking sheet; spread with egg white mixture, sealing to the edges of the cake all around. Swirl to make peaks. Bake at
500 degrees, until golden, about 3 minutes . Slice and serve immediately . Makes 8 servings.
